Surgical Position Placement and Precautions

 Date:2021-03-01 18:07:41

Surgical position refers to the position of the patient during the operation, which is composed of the patient’s prone position, the use of the posture pad, and the operation of the operating table. Correct placement of the surgical position is the basic guarantee for the success of the operation.

Placement Principle

  1. Place soft pads or anti-pressure sore pads where the patient is safe and comfortable, and where the bones are uplifted; place cotton pads and oil gauze on areas with greater friction to reduce shearing force.
  2. Fully expose the surgical site and keep the surgical position fixed.
  3. Keep the airway unobstructed and unrestricted breathing movement.
  4. The large blood vessels and nerves should not be compressed, keep the venous blood flowing well, and pads should be added when the limbs are fixed, not too tight.
  5. Abduction of the upper limbs should not exceed 90 degrees; protect the common peroneal nerve of the lower limbs from compression; in the prone position, raise the calves to make the toes droop naturally.

Heal Force Operating Table Position Examples

A. Lateral position such as urology lateral position

B. Lithotomy position

C. Rectal surgery

The position of the patient is determined by the nature of the operation. The position should not only facilitate the operation of the doctor, but also take into account the patient’s breathing and circulation functions. In addition, when taking a certain position, the patient should be protected from injury to nerves and blood vessels. The correct placement of the surgical position not only enables the doctor to get the best exposure of the surgical site, but also facilitates the anesthesiologist to observe the patient. After the patient is fully supported and exposed, he can maintain the most comfortable and safe position during the entire operation.
